Today, the calendar of our Order remembers Blessed Gertrude of Altenberg, born in 1227, the daughter of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. Raised by the Norbertine Canonesses of Altenberg, she joined the community and became the third prioress of the abbey at age 24. Using her inheritance, Gertrude built a hospital and guesthouse for the poor. She had a great devotion to the Eucharist and the feast of Corpus Christi. She was also renowned for the gift of reconciling people upon whom she implored the Divine Mercy. Bl. Gertrude died on August 13, 1297.
